Beginning her classical training in high school, Alicia is a Mexican American Soprano, and 2024 graduate of Arizona State University, where she studied under Stephanie Weiss. During her college career, Alicia had the opportunity to be featured in 23 performances, staged productions, and recitals. When asked of her favorite performance experience, she recalls her time in the chorus of The Rake's Progress, under David Lefkowich: "It was such an eye opening and wonderful learning experience with stage craft and musical precision. It will stick with me for a very long time, and for all the right reasons". Alicia has participated in a number of competitions and young artist programs, one of the first being with the Metropolitan Opera High School Intensive in 2018. As a sophomore, Alicia had an amazing experience with the Metropolitan program, and was ready to pursue a career in opera performance. She has since gone on to participate in the Classical Singer Vocal Competition, most recently placing 3rd in the Undergraduate Classical Division in 2023, and placing 1st in the Arizona National Society of Arts and Letters, for the second year in a row. She is looking forward to her experience at the FIO Italia Summer Program, where she will be performing the role of Sister Constance in Dialogues of the Carmelites.
While she continues to apply for graduate schools, competitions, and young artist programs, Alicia works in Arizona, and is very excited to see where her hard work (and a little bit of luck) will take her. "I feel like I've been able to find a wonderful community and support here in Arizona and at ASU, and I'm looking forward to creating that many more times, wherever I end up". Alicia enjoys traveling, cooking and sharing meals with her partner and family, reading and writing poetry, and a really good Lox bagel.
